miscellaneous

miscellaneous
• adjective
 1 of various types.
2 composed of things of different kinds.
— DERIVATIVES miscellaneously adverb.
— ORIGIN Latin miscellus ‘mixed’, from miscere ‘to mix’.

For some time I resisted the inevitable miscellaneous section on the basis it seemed a bit of a defeat. But the hard fact is there always seem to be a few interesting links that just don't seem to fit in anywhere else. So it's arrived - a bit thin on the ground at the moment. But as always if you have any recommendations I'm happy to hear from you. Happy browsing.

Common Ground

Common Ground is one of those strange but wonderful things that defies categorising which is I guess why it's ended up in the miscellaneous section. That doesn't take anything away from this site. Common Ground focuses on the local environment we all inhabit every day and I think they make us realize that it's probably better than we think. Amongst other things are responsible for Field Days, Parish Maps, Flora Britannica, Apple Day, Community Orchards, Tree Dressing Day, Confluence and the campaign for local distinctiveness.

Justice for Kirsty Campaign

Kirsty MacColl was an English singer and songwriter who was killed by a power boat at the age of 41 whilst scuba diving with her sons in a restricted diving area off Cozumel, Mexico on 18th December 2000. All these years later, no-one has been made accountable to the satisfaction of her family and friends. This is the campaign to seek that justice.

Keep Sunday Special Campaign

"We believe in having time for family, friends and community. We believe in time to rest and enjoy ourselves. We believe in working hard and living life to the full. And we believe in keeping just one day a week a bit special."

Liberty (the National Council for Civil Liberties)

The UK's leading human liberties and civil rights organisation.

Newsnight's Ethical Man

If you live in the UK you may be familiar with Newsnight reporter Justin Rowlatt's attempt to live an ethical life for a year. As their Ethical Man he (and his family) have had their car taken away, been banned from flying and had their lives subject to an ethical audit. The website shows various films of his experiences and links to his blog.

REBAR - remixing your landscape

REBAR are the group behind Park(ing) events started in San Francisco and moved around the world. They say about themselves "REBAR is a collaborative group of creators, designers and activists based in San Francisco. Rebar’s work ranges broadly in scale, scope and context, and therefore belies discrete categorization. It is, at minimum, situated in the domains of environmental installation, urbanism and absurdity"

Daily Mail Watch-watching them : watching us

I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that this man is not a fan of the Daily Mail, and that's good enough for me.

Have a look at his blog as well, there's some really interesting stuff there.
